GROWTH ASSESSMENT
While growth can be rapid during infancy, your paediatrician will be able to monitor and asses your child's growth in terms of height, weight and head circumference. These measurements will be plotted on the growth chart to monitor changes in growth over time and see whether or not your child is meeting growth standards for your child's age.
Growth is generally divided into four periods:
- infancy to 2 years of age
- preschool years (2 to 6 years)
- middle childhood years (7 to 10 years)
- adolescence (11 to 20 years)
At each stage, we notice a growth spurt, changes in body composition as well as maturational milestones both physically and emotionally. Dr Mason will be able to assist you in enhancing your child's growth and weight, if your child is found to be faltering in growth.
Since growth, development and nutrition are interrelated, Dr Mason will pay close attention to these aspects during your child wellness visits. As your paediatrician, she will ensure that a proper nutritional diet is being followed and assist parents in food and related dietary concerns in infancy, toddler stage and middle childhood such as breastfeeding, adequate feeding, proper nutrition, weaning, introduction to cow's milk and starting solid foods. Dr Mason may also discuss the eating habits and dietary needs of each age, fussy eating behaviours and dealing with food allergies during this appointment.
